Mini bunny ride in Adcock Park

Today was initially going to be a ride with part of the biker bunny crew, but due to unforeseen circumstances (one bunny had a time-clash with a cleaning job, and the other poor bunny was bedridden with the flu), we turned it into a family outing with laps around the velodrome in the glorious sun.

The Ride
19th July 2009
Bunnies present: mini bunnies Ben & Amanda, Bo and Annette
Meeting place: Adcock park (3 bunnies travelled down by car, while the 4th rode down the hill)
Weather: Beautiful sunny day!Ride distance: 17.6km
Average heartrate: 139bpm (max 171)
Calories burnt: 607

Woke up this morning to a few unfortunate ride-cancellations, and hoping that bunny Amanda is feeling a lot better by now, and that cleaning went well for bunny Noey :) Tor and Lou bunny have been off on another massive Toad training session, which we look forward to hear all about...
With such a gorgeous day, we decided to pack the kids' bikes into the car and meet down at Adcock park. The velodrome in the park is a pretty exciting track to coast around... No cars, and heaps of space to try and figure out how to use the slanted ends without careering into the fence or on to the grass in the middle :) Nifty little markers along the track helped us work out that the track is 400metres long following the low end, not sure how much further you end up going if you stay up the very top, but happy to leave the stats at 400m per lap :)

Everyone had a go, and as it was pretty much just us there, we had a great time doing races, stunts, bit of long-jumping thrown in by mini-bunny Ben, and some serious streamer swishing by mini-bunny Amanda. The lap stats ended up somewhere around: Bo - 2 | Ben - HEAPS | Amanda - twentyhundred | Annette - 10, and everyone seemed happy with their performance, the mini-bunnies were especially pleased with the ' wipe the track with mum' lap (mum on foot running, and kids swishing around on 2 wheels :) )

Looking foward to the next ride and hope you're happy and well :)

... on a stat note - I've been watching some of the Tour de France and am seriously baffled by their riding stats! Average speed: 45km/hour! (sometimes they ride up to 55km/hour), average distance in a day - 200-ish km!!! (WOW!), average heartrate: 145-150... (I think.... because these are numbers they call out a lot, and it can hardly refer to number of flat tyres on a ride :) ) Even more impressive is the fact that they can ride in a large group, no hands(!) and manouvre their way in and out of rain-coats, eat food, grab water, talk to people in cars etc, without causing a major crash... Should be in a circus! (I sit there internally yelling "Put your hands on your handlebars, you're going to FALL over!!!!!" :)

Anyway Tour de bunnies :) on ya bikes!

  1. Congratulations to mini-bunny Amanda - twenty hundred laps is really very impressive! You certainly had a lovely day for it and I am sure that you are all feeling very fit (that is what one says, when one is sore all over, but one knows that it supposed to do you good!). By the way, what is Toad Training? It sounds extremely 'out there'.
